Jsmithers back to winning ways with eTour victory in Dubai

Jsmithers claimed victory at the DP World eTour Global Finals live from the high-tech DP World Flow Pavilion at Expo City, Dubai.

Jsmithers, whose real name is Joshua Smith, won all three of his matches – beating Young46 in the final – to take home the $15,000 USD first prize.

Smith, a father of five and train driver in real life, has now won three eTour tournaments in his career and was delighted to claim the title in Dubai.

“It has been awesome,” said Smith.

“Coming to Dubai, hanging out with the guys in person for the first time has been an unbelievable experience. There were some great shots there on the back nine with Jason (Young46), but I am delighted to get over the line.”

In the first round of matches, Jsmithers defeated the number one seed masterhacker, real name Donald Cox.

Smith, who resides in Illinois, USA, closed out the match on the 15th after rolling in a birdie putt from 20 feet.

In the other first round match, defending champion Young46, whose real name is Jason Young, defeated pjbhai 1 Up on the 18th.

Pjbhai, whose real name is Prajwal Prakash Adiga, missed a putt to take the match into extra holes on the last.

In round two, Jsmithers got off to a fast start against pjbhai, storming to a 4 Up lead through nine holes before he closed out the match 6&5.

masterhacker recovered from defeat in his first game to beat Young46 despite the latter making a hole-in-one at the 11th.

Victory for masterhacker meant that he, along with Jsmithers and Young46, could still claim the title heading into the final round of matches, depending on various permutations.

The man with his destiny in his own hands though was Jsmithers. Smith was up against his close friend Young46, who has been one of the most dominant players on the eTour since its inception in 2020.

Despite a couple of birdies by Young46 early in the match, Jsmithers headed into the back nine with a slender one-hole advantage. However, an eagle by Young46 on the 18th green took the match to extra holes.

Meanwhile, masterhacker won 4&3 against Pjbhai, who had struggled to find the form that had taken Young46 to the 18th earlier in the day.

That result meant if Young46 beat Jsmithers in extra holes, then masterhacker would be in a three-way play-off for the title.

On the first extra hole, Jsmithers converted from 20 feet to put Young46 in an all-or-nothing situation.

Young46 took two timeouts to make sure he got his line right but when he did decide to go, the putt slid by and Jsmithers was crowned the champion.

This was the climax of the third season of the eTour, which has seen over 110,000 people enter the tournament from over 195 different countries.

Daniel van Otterdijk, Chief Communications Officer, DP World, commented: “Congratulations to Joshua on his fine victory in what was a tense and exciting finale. We’ve been delighted to be part of the new global DP World eTour competition and particularly pleased to be able to host the grand final here in Dubai.

"Dubai is not only one of the most prominent sports capitals of the world, but also a hub of world-class technology and innovation. It was fitting to bring the DP World eTour to a thrilling climax here at the DP World Flow Pavilion. We would like to thank all those that took part this year and particularly the four finalists.”
