Johnston under no pressure on Gold Coast

Andrew Johnston insists he will not be putting any pressure on himself during this week's Australian PGA Championship as he brings 2018 to a close.

It has been a mixed year for the Englishman, affectionately known as 'Beef' by his army of fans, who came second at the Hero Indian Open and recorded two other top-ten finishes.

Johnston, who has recently started working with a new coach, wants to enjoy the week at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

He said: "It's been strange. I changed coach just before the British Masters, so we're putting new things into play.

"Coming straight into tournaments, I've had days where I hit the ball really well and play well and other days where it's been a bit average, to be honest.

"I'm not putting any pressure on myself, I'm just going to go out and play and enjoy it.

"I think then it gives me time off in the winter to put things I'm trying to work on into practice more, gives me a bit more time and I can come out in the new year.

"So I put no pressure on myself, and hopefully I get a good feeling this week on the range and then go with that.

"I'm such a feel player. Making changes, it's almost like I need to go for a period where I feel the changes and kind of put it into my own feelings and stuff.

"And that's the adjustment I'm having at the moment.

"It's almost like, 'OK, practice this, practice that and then go out. I like that bit what you've said, and I like that, I'm going to take that and keep that'.

"Sort of like picking bits out and putting it into my own feelings, so I'm comfortable. I feel like I play better when I'm comfortable.

"From Hong Kong last week to this week, I've just tweaked a couple of adjustments and it has felt better.

"It felt better this morning in the Pro-Am, and I played a few holes on Monday as well where it felt better."
