The 25 year old held a two shot lead heading into the final day at the stunning Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club in the Scottish highlands and, while there were some low scores down the field, the chasing pack were struggling to catch Johnston at the summit.

The Londoner holed out with a 58 degree wedge from 83 yards at the second hole to climb two shots further ahead before two more birdies at the eighth and ninth moved him to 18 under par for the tournament and four clear.

Jamie Elson and Bjorn Åkesson shared second place as the final group reached the turn on 14 under par, while Michael Lorenzo-Vera of France, Chile’s Mark Tullo, Welshman Oliver Farr and Xavier Guzman of Spain were a shot further back on 13 under.
