World Number One Dustin Johnson was set to hit some balls on the range on Thursday before deciding whether he is fit to tee it up at the Masters Tournament.
Having returned to his rental house on Wednesday afternoon following severe rain at Augusta National, the American fell on a staircase, landing on his lower back.
While his back remained sore on Thursday, the US Open champion did not sustain a serious injury, and will see how he feels before deciding whether he can tee off in the final group alongside Bubba Watson and Jimmy Walker at 2.03pm local time.
"Dustin is very sore this morning," said his coach Butch Harmon.
"This morning he's able to make little practice swings at home so we really don't know what is going to happen until we get to the range about 1230/1300 and we'll be able to make an assessment on if he'll be able to play or not.
"I'm confident that he will come and try but we'll just have to wait to see until he makes some full swings. He says he's made a few wedge swings at home that feels alright but until you make a full swing and hit the ball, you're not going to know what's happening.
"If he can swing the golf club I think he'll go out and play. We'll just have to see how it pans out."
This is not the first time a back injury has hindered the 32 year old's hopes of winning a Green Jacket. In 2012, Johnson aggravated his back on a jet-ski and was forced to withdraw from the Masters on Tuesday.
