Johnson edges further ahead in Mexico

Dustin Johnson made a brilliant eagle to extend his lead to three shots early on day three of the WGC-Mexico Championship.

The American held a two shot advantage after a bogey free first 36 holes at Chapultepec Golf Club and he extended his blemish free run over the past two seasons here to 51 holes as he moved to 13 under after his first three on Saturday.

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy was then at ten under, a shot clear of America's Matt Kuchar.

England's Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter, Spaniard Sergio Garcia and Australian Cameron Smith were then at seven under.

Poulter drove the green on the first and got down in two, with Smith getting up and down to also join that group four off the lead.

McIlroy went a long way right off the first tee, finding sand with his second for a bogey, and he soon had company three back.

Garcia had fought for par at the first but put an approach to two feet at the second, while playing partner Fleetwood holed from ten feet at the same hole.

McIlroy went right again off the second tee but got lucky with his lie and despite finding the fringe with his second, he holed a 16-footer to get back level for the day.

That left him four behind Johnson, however, as the 34-year-old drove the green to leave himself four feet for an eagle and a four shot lead.

A poor chip from Fleetwood and a three-putt from Garcia on the third then meant that the group in a tie for fourth were six shots off the lead.

McIlroy's bounceback continued as he made a 20-footer from the fringe at the par three third to get back into double figures, while Kuchar started with three pars.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Tyrrell Hatton, Charles Howell III and Tiger Woods were at six under.
