Dustin Johnson turned in 31 to open up a three shot lead as he put on a blistering third round display at the 2020 Masters Tournament.

The World Number One started round three in a five way tie for the lead at nine under but he made an eagle and three birdies on the front nine to race to 14 under ahead of countryman Justin Thomas and Mexico's Abraham Ancer.

The American will now have Jordan Spieth's 54 hole record of 16 under in his sights as he looks to put himself in pole position to claim a first Green Jacket on Sunday.

The leading group soon swelled to eight with the second and third proving gettable but when Johnson reached Pink Dogwood in the penultimate group, he burst clear.

The 36-year-old hit a remarkable second to tap-in range to eagle the second and when he put a pitch to eight feet at the the third and holed a 40 footer on the fourth he led by three - as he had done at one stage on Friday.

Thomas had birdied the second and he put his tee shot to 11 feet on the sixth to trim the lead back to two, but Johnson spun his approach to two feet on the seventh to lead by three again.

Ancer had failed to take advantage of the second but he holed from five feet on the third and six feet on the seventh to join Thomas in second.

South Korean Sungjae Im was ten under at the turn, a shot clear of South African Dylan Frittelli, Colombian Sebastian Munoz and Australia's Cameron Smith.

Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Patrick Reed were six shots off the lead alongside Chinese Taipei's C.T. Pan.
