The Joburg Open will be completed over 54 holes after more bad weather forced play to be halted on Saturday.
After play was suspended due to fading light on Friday evening, a large number of players were up early to complete their second rounds on Saturday morning, with Paul Waring and Darren Fichardt tied at the top after 36 holes.
Thunder and lightning arrived in the early afternoon and play was initially suspended at 12.57pm local time.
The rain continued to fall and the decision was made to suspend play overnight due to thunder, lightning and subsequent course flooding.
The third round will resume at 07.00am on Sunday morning.
Greens staff at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club said there had been over 200 millimetres of rain during the week and Saturday’s storm had unloaded 35mm more within the first hour of it striking.
Tournament director David Williams said: "We've suspended play for the day because the course is now completely waterlogged.
"We were hoping to maybe get out within an hour or so but now there's no chance of that.
"We're going to restart round three - which will also now be the final round - at 07.00 tomorrow morning.
"The forecast for tomorrow is pretty good. I think we'll just have to wait and see how much damage is done today because at the moment it's coming down very hard and obviously it's coming down onto an already saturated course.
"So we'll just keep our fingers crossed that we have a reasonably good evening, that we can restart tomorrow and get finished over three rounds.
"It is frustrating and it's never great when there's a lot of waiting around.

"In a way it's quite fortunate that the rain has come down as hard as this because it makes the decision for you.
"Rather than waiting around to try and play a few holes, we know full well that we're not going to get out there again today so it made the decision a little bit easier."
Li Haotong, Garrick Porteous, Andre De Decker, Magnus A. Carlsson and Garth Mulroy made the biggest strides up the leaderboard in the third round before play was suspended.
The quintet all began their third rounds on four under par but picked up three shots to climb to seven under - four shots behind the co-leaders, who had been due to tee off in the afternoon.
Jacques Kruyswijk, who is in a share of third place on ten under par after producing rounds of 63 and 70, said: "It's a three-round tournament. I'm still going to stay focused, just stay patient.
"For everyone it's a bit frustrating. The rain is pouring down at this moment so hopefully it subsides and we can get out there tomorrow.
"My main focus is trying to win this event. If it is a top three, it's a top three and getting into the Open Championship. It's one of my dreams to play in that event."
