Joburg Open - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from day two at Houghton GC.

Bradbury stayed in pole position, Langasque started strongly and Van Tonder matched the course record on a weather-affected second day of the Joburg Open.

Here's everything you need to know from Friday's action at Houghton GC.

Langasque

Langasque quick out of the traps

Romain Langasque went through the gears perfectly at the start of his round.

An opening par was followed by birdie at the second hole and eagle at the third as the Frenchman kept himself firmly in contention.

Disappointingly for anyone wishing the sequence to continue with an albatross, the par-four fourth at Houghton GC plays 465 yards to take a hole-in-one well out of range.

Records are there to be... equalled

The course record of 63 was matched by Dan Bradbury in the first round and again by Daniel van Tonder on Friday.

The South African carded four birdies on each half with no dropped shots as he caught the eye in more ways than one.

Shot of the day

Lorenzo Scalise went to the ninth, his final hole, flirting with the cut line and needing something special to give himself the best chance.

This tee shot, then, was just what the doctor ordered - taking him to one under par, exactly where the projected cut falls with the second round still to be completed.

Stormy outlook

Round one had to be concluded on Friday morning after two stoppages for the threat of lightning on Thursday, and once again the weather had its say on day two.

A stoppage shortly after 2.30pm local time saw play suspended for nearly three hours.

Some of the leading challengers praised how well the course was still playing, with Bradbury noting: "That was some rain it put down, and the course has held up really nicely."

Van Tonder added: "(It played) the same as yesterday afternoon, it didn't really make a big difference. It was a good thing we had some preferred lies, because we got some mud balls out there, but otherwise the course is in great condition."
