The Spaniard went into the final day one shot behind Billy Andrade and shot six birdies to card a 67 for 14 under par overall but the pair were pipped to the title by Scott McCarron, who finished one shot ahead after shooting an impressive 65.

McCarron birdied the last three holes, adding to an eagle and two birdies at the Wakonda Club, Des Moines, Iowa, to secure his first TOUR Champions victory.

He said: "Once I got to 16 I said, `You know, if I can birdie the last three I might have a chance to close it out.' I played some great holes the last couple of holes.”

Jiménez has played 12 TOUR Champions events over the last three seasons, securing three titles and eight top ten finishes.

The 1988 Masters champion Sandy Lyle finished tied 17th with fellow European Senior Tour member David Frost on six under par.
