Miguel Angel Jiménez continued his good star to the Commercialbank Qatar Masters Presented by Dolphin Energy to move into the outright lead during the early stages of the second round.
The Spaniard – who was in a three way tie for the lead with Andrew Coltart and Henrik Stenson overnight at six under – picked up three birdies and a bogey in his first eight holes starting on the back nine to reach eight under.
Former winner Coltart was a shot further back having played 11 holes in one under par, alongside Holland’s Maarten Lafeber, who was three under for the day through nine.
Stenson, yet to begin his second round, was alone in fourth on six under, with a group of seven players on five under.
Four of them remained there from last night – Anders Hansen, Louis Oosthuizen, Brett Rumford and Lee Westwood were all still to tee off.
They had been joined by Spain’s Alvaro Quiros, England’s Nick Dougherty and Australia’s Rod Pampling.
