Jiménez aiming for Senior Open Championship success

Miguel Angel Jiménez hopes to continue his blistering form on the over-50s circuit as he prepares to tee-off at Carnoustie for the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.

Jiménez, who now divides his time between the European Tour, the European Senior Tour and the US Champions Tour, has finished inside the top four in America on four occasions in 2016.

His most recent victory came in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic presented by C Spire, and he finished second in both the Principal Charity Classic and Constellation Senior Players Championships.

The Ryder Cup star’s best performance on the European Tour this season was his tied 13th finish at the Shenzhen International in China, and he goes into this week’s Senior Open on the back of a tied 18th finish in The 145th Open Championship, held last week at Royal Troon.

“It’s been a good year so far,” said Jiménez. “I had a win in the States at Mississippi and a couple of second places too. I’ve been playing very well, and now I’m looking forward to this week.

“I finished fourth in the Senior Open last year, so we’ll see what happens this year.”

Since turning 50 in 2014, Jiménez is still searching for his first win in a European Senior Tour event. He finished tied eighth in the 2014 Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, and finished fourth behind Marco Dawson, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie in last year’s tournament at Sunningdale.

Jiménez has been grouped with both Dawson and Langer for the first and second rounds of this year’s Championship. The trio will tee off on at 0920 on Thursday and 1350 on Friday.
