Jeunghun Wang enjoying 'freedom' as he looks to impress on home soil

Jeunghun Wang is enjoying the freedom of being back on the DP World Tour as he looks to continue his good form since completing military service at the Korea Championship Presented by Genesis.

The DP World Tour's stop at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea marks its first event on the peninsula for a decade and is co-sanctioned with the Korea Professional Golfers' Association, building on the recently announced expansion of the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR’s relationship with the KPGA.

Wang jointly holds the record for most DP World Tour wins by a Korean player with three but will have to overcome a host of Tour and local stars if he is to write another chapter in his remarkable story.

In 2016, he became the first Asian player to win back-to-back events in Morocco and Mauritius and he made it three wins in eight months at the 2017 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

He could not maintain that remarkable form but a brilliant resurgence at the end of the 2019 season saw him keep his card, before an enforced sabbatical from the 2020 BMW PGA Championship until the start of the 2023 season as he fulfilled his constitutional duty in his homeland.

Since his return, he has recorded top tens in Singapore and Thailand to sit 43rd on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and is loving being back on the fairways as he targets more success on his home continent.

"Just one word: freedom," he said of the feeling having finished his service. "I was really happy to grab the golf clubs again and have fresh air. Everything was perfect.

"There's a lot of pressure because I didn't practise at all when I was in military service. I think I'm still doing OK so I'm happy about it and hopefully I keep working on it and play well.

"I'm playing OK, I think. I'm hitting it well, chipping well, putting well, so I'm really looking forward to playing with the DP World Tour guys and hopefully I play well."

For many DP World Tour regulars, this will be a first trip to Korea, and Wang is excited to be playing against them and for them to be experiencing his homeland.

"It's my first time playing a DP World Tour event in Korea so I'm really excited to play this week with young Korean players and DP World Tour players," he said.

"I'm really happy to be here and hopefully I play well this week and I can show all the Korean fans my swing.

"There's a lot of good restaurants around here and a lot of good bars and things. Hopefully they enjoy Korean culture."
