Jeong lands Silver Medal in style

British Amateur Champion Jin Jeong added the Silver Medal to his haul at The Open Championship after a level par final round gave him a more than respectable four under total for the tournament.

The Melbourne-based South Korean played brilliantly all week and was guaranteed the top amateur prize as none of his non-professional rivals made the cut.

"It was a dream come true," said the 20 year old, whose 5 & 4 victory over Scotland's James Byrne at Muirfield last month saw him become the first Asian winner of The Amateur Championship in its 125-year history.

"I played the Open at St Andrews. I played well and finished with an eagle - I don't think I can forget that moment."

Jeong, who also becomes the first Korean to win the Silver Medal, will retain his amateur status at least until he plays at next year's Masters Tournament.

"I was going to turn pro this year but I won the British Amateur so now I can play at the Masters and I really want to play at that tournament," he added. So I'll probably stay amateur until then and I will turn pro after the Masters."
