Jamieson takes another shot at history on Tenerife

Scott Jamieson had a shot for a 59 for the second time in his European Tour career as he set a new course record at Golf Costa Adeje on day two of the 2021 Tenerife Open.

It was back at the 2013 Portugal Masters when Jamieson carded 11 birdies in his first 17 holes in round three and needed another on the last to break the magical 60 barrier.

However, his approach ran just over the green and his chip from around 15 feet grazed the edge of the hole, the Scot sinking to his knees before tapping in for par.

It is fair to say that was a better chance than the one he was presented with in the Canary Islands, as after birdies on the first, second, third, fourth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 13th and 17th, he was left needing an albatross on the par five last.

His second shot was on line but could not make it up the ridge and rolled off the green, with two putts handing him a closing birdie and a course record 61.

That means he will enter the weekend four shots off the lead and the 37-year-old was pleased with his day's work.

"It all adds up to a great round of golf," he said. "It’s such a funny game. I just did the simple things well. Holed a couple of nice putts at the right time to get momentum on my side.

"The five par fives are all gettable here. If you take care of business there and you are playing well there are plenty of chances.

"I hope I get something nice from the club (for the course record), I will soon find out! It’s a nice accolade but I would prefer to have a trophy at the end of the week instead of just the course record. I’ve had a few before and have never (put the scorecard on the wall at home) but maybe I should."
