Jamieson on course to top Re-Rank

After another impressive performance at last week’s Iberdrola Open, European Tour rookie Scott Jamieson remains on course to top the first Re-Rank of the season.

This week’s Madeira Islands Open is the final chance for players in category 11 – those who earned their cards at the 2009 Qualifying School, or through finishing in positions 11 to 20 in the Challenge Tour Rankings – to improve their ranking, with the second opportunity coming in August.

Jamieson will not be in action at Porto Santo Golfe, but the Scot has built a virtually unassailable lead after a string of fine displays in recent weeks.

The 27 year old, who finished 14th in the 2010 Challenge Tour Rankings, followed up his tied fifth finish at the Sicilian Open by finishing joint 11th at the Open de Andalucia de Golf by Turkish Airlines.

Jamieson then earned the biggest cheque of his fledgling European Tour career at the Open de España, where he won €112,600 after finishing in a tie for third place behind winner Thomas Aiken, before earning a further €16,650 in Mallorca last week to climb to 42nd place in The Race to Dubai.

With winnings of €227,982, Jamieson currently tops the provisional Re-Rank list ahead of the South African duo of Jaco Van Zyl and George Coetzee, who occupy the next two places with respective earnings of €191,613 and €138,290.

With Van Zyl opting to take the week off, Coetzee will be hoping to steal a march on his compatriot with a strong showing this week at Porto Santo Golfe.
