Jamieson hoping to follow in Warren's footsteps

Scott Jamieson is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his countryman Marc Warren at this week's British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

Warren moved from 125th to 70th in the Race to Dubai rankings after finishing fifth at last week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and Jamieson, who began this week in 117th place, has set his sights on doing something similar.

Jamieson sits two shots behind halfway leader Richard Bland after posting a flawless 65 at The Grove on Friday.

When asked whether Warren's achievement last week had given him a lift, Jamieson said: "Yeah, of course.

"We're great friends, and it's great to see.

"I feel as though if he can do it, then I can probably do it as well. Hopefully that will be me this week."

Bogey-free and six birdies - I would have taken that when I got out of bed this morning - Scott Jamieson

Beginning his second round two shots off the lead, Jamieson - starting at the tenth tee - opened with five straight pars before finishing his front nine with three birdies in four holes.

Jamieson repeated the trick on his back nine, making five pars in a row before reeling off three straight birdies from the sixth to get to nine under.

"Bogey-free and six birdies - I would have taken that when I got out of bed this morning," said Jamieson.

"Yesterday was tough - three under yesterday afternoon I felt was a really good score. And it's cold first thing - it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be, so we got to play 12 or 13 holes with virtually no wind.

"So that certainly makes things easier, one less element that you have to worry about and the greens are rolling superb. It's October, but I have no idea how you get greens like this in October."

Jamieson heads into the weekend in a share of fourth place alongside Englishmen Anthony Wall and Tommy Fleetwood.

Fleetwood, also starting at the tenth, carded three bogeys in his first five holes but bounced back brilliantly, firing two birdies and an eagle at his next four to reach the turn in 35.

Three further birdies followed on the back nine as Fleetwood added a 67 to Thursday's opening 66.

Fleetwood's fellow Englishman Wall, meanwhile, fired six birdies in a spotless 65.

The 41 year old said: "It was a really good day.

"Yesterday I felt like I could have shot 65 and today to come back and do it is a real thrill.

"Often do you that, you feel like you've missed your chance, and to then grab it again was good."
