Scott Jamieson’s chances of a second European Tour win in South Africa in two months improved as he joined Thongchai Jaidee in the lead midway through the third round of the Volvo Golf Champions.
Scotland’s Jamieson and former Thai paratrooper Jaidee resumed one behind Louis Oosthuizen overnight, but took advantage as the 2010 Open Champion found the going tough at Durban Country Club.
Jaidee birdied the second and third to advance, and with Oosthuizen flying the green at the short second and bogeying, enjoyed an early two shot lead.
Winner of the Nelson Mandela Championship presented by ISPS Handa at nearby Royal Durban last month, Jamieson set off again with a bogey after missing the first green, but almost holed-in-one at the 188 yard second and tapped in for birdie.
Jaidee's advantage became three - the same that he held after his opening 65 - when Oosthuizen and Jamieson both failed to get up and down from sand on the 180 yard fourth.
Oosthuizen was struggling to replicate the form he displayed when, like Jamieson, he shot 64 in the second round.
He drove into a bush down the long eighth, had to take a penalty drop and by taking six was four over for the day and down to joint fourth with England's Danny Willett.
Jaidee, though, had done the same at the eighth and at 12 under he was caught when Jamieson hit his approach to the same hole to within five feet of the flag and made it for eagle.
They were three clear of Quesne, who had an eagle of his own at the third after an approach to two feet, turned in 33 and birdied the 560 yard tenth.
Jamieson took a two stroke leap by chipping in from around 25 yards at the 11th and then making a 12 footer on the next.
He stood 14 under, with Jaidee 12 under and Quesne nine under alongside Willett and Oosthuizen, who birdied the tenth and 11th only to drop another shot at the 12th.
