Three birdies in the opening four holes handed Mark James a three shot lead in the early stages of what promises to be a dramatic final day at the Benahavis Senior Masters, with five players tied for second spot.

James started with a birdie on the first and a bogey on the second was followed immediately by back to back birdies to leave him three under par through four holes and 11 under for the tournament.

Barry Lane was one of the chasing pack on eight under par for the tournament after the three time Senior Tour winner birdied the first and the fourth holes to go two under through four.

The overnight leader Mark Mouland opened the door for the others early on when he bogeyed the opening hole to go one over par through three holes, while Mike Harwood and Gary Wolstenholme were level par through three and four holes, respectively.

Carl Mason had moved to within two shots of the lead after opening with a birdie but a bogey on the third hole knocked him back to eight under par for the tournament alongside the four others.
