Thongchai Jaidee fired a 66 in the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open and then set his sights on reining in runaway leader Thorbjørn Olesen.
The Dane broke the course record at Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort with a 62 to establish a six-shot lead after 36 holes - the largest advantage so far this season after two rounds.
Jaidee was in a tie for second at nine under after carding six birdies and a bogey to follow up his opening 67 in Antalya.
The 46 year old Thai has seen it all on the European Tour, claiming his eighth win at the 100th Open de France in July, and while Olesen's lead is substantial, Jaidee was not daunted by the prospect of chasing him down.
"There are two more rounds, you can catch up," he said. "If you play really well, why not? I'll try to give my best anyway. Anything can happen.
"I played well in the French Open, very well, very consistent every day. This week looks like it's going to be really consistent for me.
"I'm really confident, putting well and the driver is still okay. You miss and it's okay a little bit, you can hole from the rough to the green but you can make the putt. That's why I think the greens are a very good speed. That's why we like the greens like this."
Adrian Otaegui was alongside Jaidee at nine under after firing a 63 that was briefly the course record before Olesen picked up six shots in his final six holes.

The Spaniard has retained his card for the first time this season after coming through the Qualifying School three times and making it onto the European Tour once through the Challenge Tour.
This is his first taste of a Final Series event and the 23 year old is determined to make the most of it.
"One of the first goals this year was playing in the Final Series, playing this wonderful event," he said. "So now that we are here, let's enjoy it.
"I'm very happy with today's round. I felt very well from the beginning to the end. I started with five consecutive birdies. I just tried to not think on anything, just tried to keep the momentum and work."
