Jacquelin replaces injured Quiros for Vivendi Seve Trophy

Frenchman Raphaël Jacquelin has replaced Alvaro Quiros for this week’s Vivendi Seve Trophy at St. Nom-La-Bretèche after the Spaniard withdrew from the Continental Europe Team with a wrist injury.

Jacquelin was next in line for a place in the team through The Race to Dubai qualifying list. The 37 year old will make his fourth appearance in the biennial contest having previously appeared at the 2002, 2003, and 2007 events.

Jean Van de Velde, the Continental captain, said: “First of all, it is desperately disappointing news for Alvaro. He wanted to play and to be able to honour the memory of Seve. However his wrist injury hadn’t healed sufficiently for him to compete. He would have been a big asset to my team. He is a wonderful player and a great character and we are both disappointed that he won’t make it.

“Having said that, Raphaël Jacquelin is an outstanding player as he proved in three previous Seve Trophies when he collected 8 ½ points. It will be wonderful to have him in the team as he is very experienced,  knows St. Nom very well and I am sure he will receive great support from the French public. He is very excited about playing and is a fine competitor who will be an excellent addition to our Continental side.”

Jacquelin’s record in the Vivendi Seve Trophy is impressive. Over the course of his three previous appearances, Jacquelin’s 8 ½ points were gained from 15 matches, of which he won eight, halved once, and was defeated on only six occasions.
