The European Challenge Tour visits Italy for the second time this season and we have picked out ten key statistics ahead of the Italian Challenge presented by Cashback World.
24 –under par was Joel Sjöholm’s winning score last year. The Swede shot a final round 65, which included seven birdies and one bogey on his way to victory.
Four – shots was Sjöholm’s winning margin – ahead of runners up Chase Koepka and Bradley Neil 12 months ago.
6,955 – the length of the Is Molas Resort course. It includes four par threes, which range from 170-yards to 215-yards.
11–Italian players will be in action this week. Francesco Laporta leads the charge after he finished tied tenth at the Prague Golf Challenge last week.
Ninth – edition of the Italian Challenge this year. 2007 was the first time the event was held as it took place at Le Pavoniere Golf & Country Club with Mikael Lundberg reigning victorious.
Two –home winners of the Italian Challenge in its history. Edoardo Molinari won in 2009 on his way to topping the Rankings. While Matteo Delpodio became the second Italian to lift the trophy in 2015.
Three – winners of the Italian Challenge have graduated to the European Tour in the same season they triumphed at the event. Sam Little in 2011, Mikael Lundberg in 2007 and Molinari in 2009.
91 – birdies were recorded at last year’s Italian Challenge at Is Molas Resort. 38 eagles were made on the par five first, while Reiner Saxton claimed the only eagle on the par four 18thduring his first round.
Two – of this week’s players will be teeing it up at The Open Championship next week at Carnoustie Golf Links. Scotsman Grant Forrest qualified at The Renaissance Club while Englishman Jack Senior qualified at St Annes Old Links.
