'It's been a good week' - Tommy Fleetwood shares third in Madrid

Tommy Fleetwood was positive after a final-round 66 saw him finish in a tie for third place at the 2024 acciona Open de España presented by Madrid.

Fleetwood Sunday

The Englishman was never quite able to get into contention alongside the leading Spanish trio but recorded his best round of the week on Sunday, with five birdies and no dropped shots.

Fleetwood's fine start to the tournament had stalled on Friday after his tee-shot at the ninth hit the pin but rebounded 50 feet away, leading to a three-putt bogey.

A procession of putts in his second and third rounds skimmed the holes or came up just short and he said: "I played very well. I still feel like I've left shots out there but it's been a good week.

"I feel like I continue to play what I would say is pretty good golf without quite getting what I want out of it. But it's been a good week, so don't overlook that."

Fleetwood, who plays predominantly in the United States on the PGA Tour, was happy to be back in Europe and enjoyed his week at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

He said: "It's always great coming back to Europe and to a major city, and I think all of that has been the most fun part for me.

"I think it's a beautiful city. It's a great golf course.

"I think the tournament, the way it's been hosted and the way everything has been run this week is exactly how a golf tournament should be. So everybody should be very proud of that."
