ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by Aviv Clinics - Day one digest

Everything you need to know from day one in Northern Ireland.

Leona Maguire

Ferguson fired a new course record at Galgorm Castle thanks to a pair of eagles, while Doherty set the pace in the women's tournament on Thursday at the 2022 ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by Aviv Clinics.

This week's event is tri-sanctioned by the DP World Tour, Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour, with separate male and female tournaments being played on the same two courses - Galgorm Castle & Massereene - at the same time and for two equal prize funds of US$1.5 million each.

And her talent was on display again at Galgorm Castle on Thursday as the first female winner of a DP World Tour event shot an opening 70. This approach into the tenth green, where she would go on to make a birdie, was a highlight...

Defending champion goes flag hunting

Last year's winner Daniel Gavins only had eyes for the flag with his second shot at the 17th at Galgorm Castle - so much so that he hit it!

Doherty leads the way

American Amanda Doherty led the women's tournament on six under after making seven birdies and a single bogey in her 67. A talented chasing pack was just one shot back, though, with Leona Maguire, Georgia Hall, Lauren Coughlin and Emily Kristine Pedersen on five under.
