Shane Lowry is relishing the opportunity to bring his red-hot recent form to home soil when the 2021 Ryder Cup player tees it up in the Horizon Irish Open at Mount Juliet Estate, from June 30 - July 3 and you can witness it by purchasing your tickets here.
The former Open Champion from Offaly has been enjoying a rich vein of form in the 2022 campaign and came close to a third PGA TOUR title two weeks ago at the RBC Heritage, having clinched his best ever Masters Tournament result at Augusta a week earlier courtesy of a tied third place finish.
Lowry has always been a firm fan favourite amongst the Irish crowd, and they will have the opportunity to welcome him home for the first time since making his Ryder Cup debut at Whistling Straits last September.
The 35-year-old famously won his national open as an amateur in 2009, kick-starting a career which has already yielded a Major title at the 2019 Open Championship, a World Golf Championships win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 2015, a Rolex Series win at the 2019 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and a Ryder Cup appearance in 2021.
He joins Séamus Power, a winner on the PGA TOUR last year, as the latest player to announce their return to the Horizon Irish Open.
“I can’t wait to get home and tee it up at the Horizon Irish Open,” said Lowry. “Everyone knows how much I love this tournament and how much I enjoy playing in front of my home fans, and they’re always so supportive of me so I’m excited to play in front of them again.
“I’ve been really happy with my form over the last few months and my game feels in great shape heading into the summer, so I really hope I can bring my best stuff to Mount Juliet Estate and put myself into contention come Sunday.
“There appears to be a huge amount of momentum around this tournament at the moment and it’s shaping up to be another incredible week at a superb venue.”
Last year, the returning home fans watched Australian Lucas Herbert triumph in wire-to-wire fashion, sealing a three-stroke victory for a second DP World Tour title. The promising 25-year-old has since won for the first time on the PGA TOUR, at October’s 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship and he made his Masters debut earlier this month.
Prior to the 2021 edition, Mount Juliet had hosted the Irish Open for three consecutive years in 1993, 1994 and 1995, won by Englishman Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer of Germany and Scotland’s Sam Torrance respectively.
It was announced in February that all general admission tickets for Sunday at the 2022 Horizon Irish Open have sold out, the earliest sell-out day in the history of the DP World Tour. Limited tickets still remain for the Wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am, as well as the first three tournament days – Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Premium Experience hospitality packages are also selling fast, with The Range Club – an ideal offering for smaller groups wishing to relax in style and enjoy outstanding service in a relaxed hospitality environment – already sold out on Sunday.
General admission tickets and Premium Experience hospitality packages, which also include the Green on 18 experience, can be purchased here and fans are encouraged to purchase in advance to avoid disappointment.
