Iconic trophies highlight golfing year

Six of the most iconic and recognisable trophies in world golf shone like beacons on the first tee of the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, illuminating a season of golfing excellence on The European Tour.

European Tour Champions showcase their trophies

The Ryder Cup, US Open Trophy, Claret Jug, Wannamaker Trophy, Dubai World Championship scepter and Race to Dubai Trophy were lined up on the first tee with their champions ahead of the season-ending event.

George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, stood proud behind Samuel Ryder’s golden chalice as he represented Europe to join US Open Champion Graeme McDowell, Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, US PGA Champion Martin Kaymer and the World Number One, defending Dubai World Champion and 2009 Race to Dubai winner Lee Westwood, for a celebratory photo ahead of the 2010 finale.

The top 60 players on The Race to Dubai have assembled at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the climax for the season with Kaymer and McDowell battling for the Number One spot while others vie for a place in the top 15 for a slice of the $7.5 million Bonus Pool in addition to the lion’s share of the $7.5 million prize money at the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World.

It is the first time in history that three of the four Major titles have been in the hands of European Tour Members. With Lee Westwood, who won Dubai World Championship and Race to Dubai a year ago, ascending to World Number One and Europe regaining The Ryder Cup, it has been a stunning year for The European Tour and a fitting finale to the season lies ahead.
