The 1991 Masters Tournament winner, Ian Woosnam, will continue his 2018 Staysure Tour season and join returning tournament host Peter Baker at Birmingham’s Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club from October 4-7.
Woosnam has enjoyed a decorated career, including eight consecutive appearances on Europe’s Ryder Cup team, captaining them to victory in 2006 as well.
The Welshman was awarded an OBE for his contribution to golf the following year, in the 2007 New Year’s Honours List. Further confirming his huge contribution to the sport, he was announced as an addition to the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and most recently the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017.
Last year the Farmfoods European Senior Masters made its debut on the Staysure Tour calendar and saw three-time European Tour winner Stephen Dodd take home the inaugural title. The Arden Course is highly regarded as a strong test and will provide a great setting as the field competes for a €200,000 prize fund.
Three-time European Tour winner Peter Baker, and friend of Woosnam, who took on the role of Vice-Captain in Woosie’s 2006 Ryder Cup team, returns as tournament host.
“As a fellow Ryder Cup player, and close friend, I have had the personal pleasure of playing alongside Woosie on courses around the world, many times, and it is fantastic news that he will once again play at this event,” Baker said.
“He always brings a competitive edge to the game and a player of his history will bring in more spectators and increase the profile of the three-day event.
