Ian Finnis, the long-serving caddie for Tommy Fleetwood, says his “road to recovery has started” after undergoing open-heart surgery.
Fleetwood revealed earlier this month his long-time friend Finnis was suffering from a prolonged illness with the duo unable to team up for the Masters Tournament.
Prior to the Valero Texas Open – the week before the first men’s Major Championship of the year – the pair have been a near ever-present partnership around the world since the duo began working together in 2016.
"He's not been well all year," Fleetwood told reporters at the Masters.
"At the moment he's at home trying to recover and get the right treatment. Hopefully he'll be back out sooner rather than later.”
Now, in an Instagram story posted on Tuesday, Finnis has given an update on his condition and expressed his hope he can make a full recovery.
“Open heart surgery done!! he said on social media. “Massive thanks to all at the NHS staff. The road to recovery has started.
“Thanks for all the love.”
Together, Fleetwood and Finnis have won six DP World Tour titles, the most recent of which came at the Dubai Invitational in January.
Either side of working alongside former Augusta National Golf Club caddie master Gray Moore at the Masters, Fleetwood has teamed up with Adrian Rietveld, a senior manager at TaylorMade, in his other two starts on the PGA TOUR since Finnis returned home to England to receive treatment.
Everyone at the European Tour group wishes Ian Finnis a speedy recovery.
