Huizing feels at home on returning to Galgorm

Daan Huizing is back on familiar ground for the Tayto Northern Ireland Open in Partnership with Ulster Bank and is hoping to repeat his 2013 victory at Galgorm Castle this week.

The Dutchman won the inaugural staging of the tournament, dramatically beating Oliver Wilson in a play-off as he found a rich vein of form that saw him win again on his next outing two weeks later at the Kharkov Superior Cup.

The 25 year old has struggled for the same consistency on the Challenge Tour this year, a top ten in the Barclays Kenya Open and a top five at the Najeti Open his best results to date, but he is excited to be returning to Northern Ireland for what is always one of the highlights of the season.

“I think it’s one of the most fun tournaments in the whole year with all the crowds,” he said. “The people are very nice and I enjoy the course a lot, and I played well there last year as well, so I’m excited to go there and I’m prepared as it’s a bit of a Major for the Challenge Tour.

“You don’t often get crowds like that on this tour and it’s almost better than the European Tour. I really enjoy it and it’s a nice place – I hope we get some Irish weather too, not rain but a bit of wind would be good for me.

“I see it quite well there. The greens are always very true and a bit of wind makes me feel the shots a bit better but we’ll have to see when we get there.

“The year has been very up and down. I’ve been feeling very good about my game but not really showing it results-wise, there’s been a few good finishes but too many missed cuts – I’ve missed the cut by one pretty often.

“I just feel like when it’s more stable across the board, you’re never going to miss a cut by one – I’m training really well and working hard but it’s still the challenge to put what I’ve worked on down in the tournament.

“With golf, in any week you can turn it around with a win. I think the key is to just stay calm and stay positive and there’s a lot of nice tournaments coming up, a bunch that I’ve played well at in the past so I’m looking forward to that, starting in Galgorm.”
