Huizing fancies French déjà vu

Daan Huizing is hoping he can continue his good French form when he tees it up at Golf Blue Green de Pléneuf Val André for the Cordon Golf Open.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a lot of success in France on the 2016 Road to Oman, finishing tied fourth at the Najeti Open before going on to finish tied 14th at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge one month later.

The 25 year old has had a mixed campaign by his high standards, but a top-five finish at the Bridgestone Challenge last week has given the former Palmer Cup winner a new lease of life.

And Huizing, who is a two-time European Challenge Tour champion, is excited to return to the French coast this week after he was a joint runner-up there last season.

“I think I just have a good feeling with the courses there,” he said. “Both the courses we have played this year I know well and enjoying playing.

“With Le Vaudreuil I still think I have the course record after shooting a 61 there and I really enjoy that place.

“Also with Saint-Omer it was in really good shape this year and I have always felt it has something about it – you just have to put it in the right places and from there you can score. I went there with a good attitude and it worked out for me.

“This week’s course also suits my eye as well. It is a beautiful place that is on the coast and I just enjoy the area there. I think that really helps.”

Huizing, who fired his way up the leaderboard at Heythrop Park last week with a seven under par final round of 65, believes he is capable of putting in a winning performance in the business end of the season.

“I have felt a lot better about myself and my game than my results this year have shown,” he said. “I am disappointed with that so far, but on the other hand with golf you can turn the tide any week. That’s what I am trying to focus on, to work really well and improve my mind-set.

“I just try to focus on improving my routine, but do the things I need to do, and get myself ready for the big tournaments that are coming up. I will stay patient for that and make sure I play well there.

“I said at the beginning of the year that I just want to win a tournament again. I know if I want to finish in the top 15 I am going to need to win as well. From there you need to try to pick it apart and what you need to win are good scores.”
