Huge support for Best Friends Charity Challenge in Denmark

The second edition of the Made in Denmark is promising to live up to its spectacular debut last year after around 1,000 people turned up to watch a charity stunt on Tuesday afternoon.

Home favourites Thomas Bjørn, Thorbjørn Olesen, Søren Kjeldsen and Andreas Hartø were joined by Swedes Robert Karlsson and Joel Sjöholm for the “Best Friends Shootout” on the par three tenth hole at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.

The three challenges were the tee shot, splashing out from a greenside bunker and chipping off the balcony of the hospitality unit to the green, with each player having two chances at each.

Karlsson and Sjöholm emerged victorious after winning the first two challenges – the latter hitting to ten feet from the tee and a few inches from the bunker – and on their behalf 75,000 Danish Krone (approximately €10,000) was donated to the tournament’s charity partner, Kids Aid.

Kjeldsen then won the hospitality unit shot for a consolation point for his team, delighting the masses gathered around the amphitheatre-esque green.

Last year more than 80,000 spectators lined the fairways of the Farsø venue, when The European Tour returned to Denmark for the first time since 2003. It created an electric atmosphere, particularly on the par three 16th hole, where crowds began arriving at 7am each day.

The event, which was won by Scotland’s Marc Warren, was a celebration of the achievements of Danish golf in the intervening 11 years and will reprise that role this week.
