How BMW PGA Championship played its part in European Tour group's net zero pledge

As part of the European Tour group’s commitment towards net zero carbon emissions, there were a range of efforts made to promote greater environmental sustainability at the BMW PGA Championship.

By signing up to the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework and the Framework's Race to Zero pledge in 2022, the DP World Tour became the first professional golf tour to announce its commitment towards net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

A key focus of Golf for Good, the European Tour group’s commitment to Driving Golf Further in an environmentally and socially sustainable way, the Rolex Series event at Wentworth Club saw players, members of the public and volunteers all play their part.

From fans ditching single use plastic, to players using an electric courtesy car when being transported to the venue, to chef James Tanner creating meals with ingredients from local suppliers there were a range of actions in place.

In another key effort, the European Tour Productions’ broadcast of the television coverage was powered entirely by green hydrogen, with pure water the only by-product.
