Sam Horsfield is into the quarter-finals of the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth after a dramatic victory over Matthew Millar.
After three days of stroke play at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, it was now down to a six-hole match play knockout, with players facing off against each other over the tenth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 12th and 18th, with a 90-yard shootout hole to separate those still all square.
Horsfield finished in the top eight after the stroke play to earn a bye into the last 16, while Millar had earlier defeated Scot Grant Forrest one up.
The pair were inspearable after six holes and needed four trips up the shootout hole before Horsfield sealed a clash against amateur Min Woo Lee.
The Englishman came through all three stages to win the Qualifying School in November and is now set for the best result of his European Tour career after making just one of four cuts in 2018 before this week.
Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat also made it through to the last eight alongside American Sean Crocker and Australians Callan O'Reilly, James Nitties, Lucas Herbert and Brad Kennedy.
Horsfield birdied the first but Millar birdied the third before an eagle on the driveable fourth edged Horsfield back ahead. A bogey on the sixth let Millar back into the contest before Horsfield birdied the extra hole at the fourth time of asking.
Lee continued his remarkable run as he made it ten birdies in 11 holes to knock out top seed Prom Meesawat.
Meesawat finished the stroke play two shots ahead of his nearest challenger but had no answer to Australian Lee as he fell by two holes.
The World Number 801 made five birdies to beat Satoshi Kodaira - the highest ranked player in the field - in round one and made five from six in round two.
He and Meesawat both birdied the first and second but two further gains put Lee two up. Meesawat won the fifth with a birdie but yet another Lee gain handed him the sixth.
Aphibarnrat needed a brilliant up-and-down to make last night's nine-man play-off and was the last man into the knockout after another four trips up the last.
In the first round on Sunday he birdied the sixth match play hole to prevail one up and set up a contest against Yisaku Miyazoto.
The three-time European Tour winner birdied the first but back-to-back gains on the third and fourth put the Japanese ahead before a bogey handed Aphibarnrat the fifth.
An Aphibarnrat birdie on the fifth trip up the shootout hole after Miyazato found the sand ended the contest.
Italian Andrea Pavan raced into a two up lead over Crocker with a birdie-birdie start but the American birdied the fourth and a Pavan bogey on the last extended the contest.
Crocker then birdied the shootout hole to earn a match against Aphibarnrat.
O'Reilly had a birdie-birdie finish to beat Thorbjørn Olesen one up.
A birdie on the first put O'Reilly ahead but Olesen birdied the second and an eagle on the driveable par four fourth put the 2014 ISPS HANDA Perth International winner ahead before O'Reilly's big finish.
He will next face Nitties, whose birdie on the third was the only thing to separate him from countryman Dimitrios Papadatos.
Kennedy birdied the second to go one up but Yi-keun Chang evened things up with an eagle on the fourth. The South Korean bogeyed the next but Kennedy returned the favour on the sixth to send them up the shootout hole, where a Kennedy birdie got the job done.
He will next face Herbert who was a one up winner over Marcus Fraser.
A par was enough to hand Herbert the first and he won the second with a birdie before Fraser hit back by almost making a hole-in-one on the fourth.
The three-time European Tour winner needed six trips up the shootout hole to win his first round match and he ran out of steam as the final two holes were halved to hand Herbert victory.
