18-year-old Dane won in his fifth European Tour start at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
Rasmus Højgaard has been voted the European Tour’s Golfer of the Month for December after picking up his maiden European Tour victory at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
The 18-year-old Dan received 46 per cent of the public vote ahead of Major Champion Adam Scott, who came in second with 29 per cent after winning the Australian PGA Championship on home soil.
Højgaard’s victory came in just his fifth European Tour start, beating fellow Dane Thomas Bjørn’s record of 24 events and comes less than a month after graduating from the European Tour Qualifying School. His win came in remarkable fashion after birdieing the 72nd hole to make his way into a three-man play-off before going on to eagle the third extra hole and claim a memorable win to kick start his 2020 Race to Dubai campaign..
Scott came in second place after winning the Australian PGA Championship, his first victory on the European Tour in three years. In a closely fought final round, the 39-year-old eagled the 15th to set up a two-shot advantage over the closing holes and closed out his 11th European Tour win in front of the delighted home crowd.
Pablo Larrazábal was third following his inspired win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, with the Spaniard birdieing three of his final four holes and battling horrific blisters on his feet, claimed his first victory since the 2015 BMW International Open.
Johannes Veerman rounded off the voting, picking up two top ten results in his first three European Tour starts. The American was a graduate of the 2019 Qualifying School after one of the performances of the week, having been five over par after the first two days before going on to claim one of 28 European Tour cards.
Congratulations to Rasmus on a terrific start to his European Tour career.
