Højgaard twins set to make Masters history as Nicolai joins Rasmus in Augusta field

Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard are set to be the first set of twins to play the Masters Tournament after Nicolai received an invite to the year's opening Major Championship.

Three-time DP World Tour winner Nicolai finished tied 16th on his debut at Augusta National last year and joins the already qualified Rasmus in the field after receiving a special invite.

The Højgaard twins are in action on the DP World Tour this week at the Team Cup in Abu Dhabi, representing Continental Europe against Great Britain & Ireland in the three-day match play contest.

Nicolai, 60th on the Official World Ranking, finished seventh for Denmark at the Olympic Games in Paris last year.

A Rolex Series winner, the 23-year-old closed out the 2024 Race to Dubai with four consecutive top 20 finishes.

Joaquin Niemann, a fellow winner on the DP World Tour, will make his sixth Masters start after also receiving a special invite for the second year running.

The Chilean, who won the ISPS HANDA Australian Open at the start of the 2024 DP World Tour season, made his Masters debut in 2018 as the top-ranked amateur in the world and the reigning Latin America Amateur champion.

“In support of Augusta National’s efforts to develop interest in golf globally, deserving international players not otherwise qualified have been invited throughout the Tournament’s history," said Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament.

"The tradition continues as we welcome Nicolai and Joaquin back to the Masters, as both players have showcased their talent while competing around the world. We look forward to their arrival this April.”

The 2025 Masters will take place from April 10-13.
