Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey completed a two under par 68 in the weather-delayed Enjoy Jakarta Standard Chartered Indonesia Open to lie four shots off the pace set by Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant at the halfway stage.
Wiratchant posted two successive 63’s at Cengkareng Golf Club, Jakarta, to lead on 14 under par 126, one shot ahead of Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts after both players completed their second rounds on Friday. Hoey was left with nine holes to play but the weather again disrupted proceedings causing further delays to the resumption of the second round.
When play did finally get underway at 11am local time after a three and a half hour delay, Hoey, the 2001 Amateur Champion, completed his nine holes in level par to lie alongside Marman Mamat of Singapore, who shot 65, in a share of third place on ten under par 130.
Colin Montgomerie completed a one under par 69 to lie on four under par for the tournament at the halfway stage. The Scot, who needs to win to climb into the World’s top 50 an earn an invitation in the Masters Tournament was right on the cut mark when play was suspended on Friday.
When play got underway, the Ryder Cup player saved par from a greenside bunker on the 14th before picking up shots on the 16th and 17th holes and comfortably progressed to the weekend despite a bogey on the last. His Ryder Cup team-mate Paul McGinley, of Ireland, also has plenty of work to do over the weekend to advance from his position on the cut line at three under par.
