Havret set for warm welcome

Gregory Havret returns to home soil after his US Open Championship heroics for this week's Alstom Open de France hoping to maintain his outstanding form.

The Frenchman pushed Graeme McDowell all the way at Pebble Beach Golf Links two weeks ago before finishing second by a single shot.

And after admitting it was both the proudest and most disappointing experience of his life in California, the former Barclays Scottish Open winner believes he is now well set up for his national championship at Le Golf National.

"They were fantastic emotions, I started very well that round," Havret reflected. "It was a lovely three at the first.

"You've got to start well, and I did make some pars after and a nice birdie at six really put me in contention. That was obviously very exciting and I played fine but one shot - I'm still thinking about it. I'm very happy for Graeme - he played great."

Havret now looks to carry that momentum into the week, as he aims to become the first home winner in Paris for five years.

"It's a great course - everybody says it, everybody thinks it," added Havret. "Over the years you see some great golf - great finishes.

"It's very well prepared this year. The field is awesome this year so for the spectators it's great.

"The key this week is to avoid mistakes, you have some testing holes and then you have this beautiful finish.

"You can make birdies but the first shots are very important. As soon as you have dodgy pins don't go for it."
