Hatton catches up with Fisher during third round

Tyrrell Hatton joined fellow Englishman Ross Fisher at the top of the leaderboard after firing seven birdies in his first ten holes on day three of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Hatton, who started the day four shots behind overnight leader Fisher after following up Thursday's 67 with a 70 on Friday, covered the front nine in 30 at St Andrews before tapping in from close range for another birdie at the tenth to move to 14 under.

The 24 year old got his third round off to the perfect start on Saturday, making gains at the first, third, fifth and sixth to propel himself into contention.

And he finished his front nine in style, notching back-to-back birdies at the eighth and ninth to take the outright lead on 13 under.

A birdie at the 12th saw Fisher, playing at Carnoustie, regain a share of the lead but Hatton was alone at the top of the pile once more courtesy of another gain at the tenth.

But Fisher responded immediately, carding his second successive birdie at the 13th to move level with Hatton.

The pair were three shots clear of a chasing pack made up of Florian Fritsch, Joakim Lagergren and Richard Sterne.
