Padraig Harrington surged into contention as the US PGA Championship third round began at a very different Kiawah Island to the one that wreaked havoc on Friday.
Second round scores averaged over 78 as strong Atlantic winds blew across the Ocean Course, but they had died down significantly for Moving Day.
Americans Jason Dufner and Jimmy Walker had already bettered Vijay Singh’s best-of-Friday 69, and Harrington moved into contention by turning in 32.
The Irishman - a winner of this event in 2008 - carded four birdies, including a five footer at the sixth, to reach two under par.
That was just two behind the leading trio of Singh, Tiger Woods and Carl Pettersson – all about to tee off – and level with Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy.
England’s Ian Poulter was about to partner Pettersson, and started the day only one behind on three under.
And Poulter’s compatriot David Lynn, playing his first American Major at the age of 38 after an invite from the PGA of America, also turned in 32 to reach one under.
