Padraig Harrington and Justin Rose head into the final round of the now 54-hole championship at The Barclays just four shots off the lead held by Matt Kuchar in the first of the PGA Tour Play-Offs series.
The Irishman and the Englishman saw their chances of catching Kuchar reduced by 50 per cent as the threat of hurricane Irene to America’s east coast left tournament officials no choice but to reduce the tournament at the Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey to 54 holes.
Kuchar leads the way on 14 under par, with Harrington and Rose posting second rounds of 67 and 65 to bustle their way into contention along with Sergio Garcia, who moved to eight under after a 66.
Dustin Johnson’s brilliant 63 took him into a share of second place alongside Vijay Singh, whose own 64 contributed to setting up a thrilling Saturday finale.
