Hanson hits the front in Texas

A five under par 65 saw Sweden’s Peter Hanson grab the first round lead at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

The Ryder Cup star birdied the first from ten feet and had four further gains from inside that range after some immaculate iron play led to an outward 30 in Texas.

A missed four footer at the 14th cost Hanson his only shot at the day, but an approach to six feet at the last saw Hanson take a one shot lead over David Duval, Marc Leishman and Tim Wilkinson.

Last week’s Players Championship winner Martin Kaymer sits in a share of fifth after a three under 67, with fellow German Alex Cejka on the same mark.

Former Major winners Louis Oosthuizen and Padraig Harrington are both part of a large group on two under at TPC Four Seasons.
