Hansen wins March Shot of the Month

Anders Hansen’s superb eagle at the Maybank Malaysian Open has been voted The European Tour’s Shot of the Month for March.

The successful shot claimed just less than 31 per cent of the public vote as cast by fans of My European Tour, edging out efforts from China’s Liang Wenchong and Italian Edoardo Molinari.

Hansen’s moment of magic came during the first round of the Maybank Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club when, having pushed his drive into the right rough at the second hole, the Dane was faced with a daunting long iron approach into the 444-yard par four.

Not fazed by the task in front of him, however, the three-time European Tour champion struck a masterful shot that pitched on the middle of the green, rolled up and over the prominent ridge before taking the right to left break straight into the middle of the cup for an eagle two.

Hansen would capitalise on this excellent start as an opening round of 66 would set the Sønderborg man en route to a third place finish in Malaysia – his best performance so far in The 2012 Race to Dubai.

Voted second was Liang, whose hole in one during the final round of the Avantha Masters earned 25 per cent of the vote, while Molinari came in third with 17 per cent of the vote thanks to his holed bunker shot during the third round of the Maybank Malaysian open.

Hansen now joins January Shot of the Month winner Chris Wood and February victor Charl Schwartzel in the running for the Shot of the Year prize, as they look to emulate South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, who won in 2012 thanks to his outrageous albatross during the final round of The Masters Tournament.

One lucky fan of My European Tour has also earned themselves a £100 voucher for The European Tour shop for picking the winning shot, so make sure to register so you can cast your vote in the April competition, which will be launched in the coming days.
