Hanbury Manor to host revamped Sinclair Invitational

The Staysure Tour will enter an exciting new chapter in 2019 as Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club hosts an over-50s tournament for the fourth successive year with the introduction of The Sinclair Invitational from August 30-September 1.

Formerly the Willow Senior Golf Classic, the tournament returns in 2019 named after its founder Duncan Sinclair, while the On Course Foundation will benefit from the proceeds as the tournament’s designated charity partner.

The prize fund has been increased from £370,000 to £400,000 for this year’s event, placing the tournament in the Tour’s top tier in terms of ranking points for the Order of Merit.

Spectators were treated to a nail-biting finale last year as Peter Fowler pulled clear of a trio of players with whom he shared the lead ahead of the final round to win his sixth Staysure Tour title by two shots.

Hanbury Manor is set in 200 acres of spectacular Hertfordshire parkland with a stunning 17thcentury Jacobean style country house. The Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course offers a true test of golf with each hole providing a different challenge and incorporates features from an earlier nine-hole course designed by Harry Vardon.

David MacLaren, Head of the Staysure Tour, said: “We are thrilled to retain one of our most prestigious tournaments on our schedule for 2019 and particularly given that the tournament now boasts one of our highest prize funds.

“This is a new chapter for what will now be known as The Sinclair Invitational and work has already begun behind-the-scenes to make this the best edition yet.

“Hanbury Manor is a wonderful venue and, with the On Course Foundation as the official charity partner, The Sinclair Invitational is a stand-out event on our schedule.”

Duncan Sinclair, tournament founder, said: “It has been wonderful to be associated with the Staysure Tour since 2016 and to see the inclusion of The Sinclair Invitational in the 2019 Schedule.

“We look forward to another successful tournament at Hanbury Manor and to joining with the many tournament sponsors to raise funds for the On Course Foundation.”

Stan Power, Director of Golf at Hanbury Manor, said: “It is excellent news for all involved that The Sinclair Invitational will take place at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club this year.

“The last three years have proved that Hanbury Manor is a superb venue for Staysure Tour golf and we are excited to enhance the event further this year.”

The On Course Foundation helps aid the recovery of injured and sick service personnel and veterans through nationwide golf events and employment in the golf industry.

Alistair McKay Forbes, Managing Director of On Course Foundation, said “We are indebted to Corrine and Duncan Sinclair for designating On Course Foundation as the benefitting charity of this year’s Sinclair Invitational.

“As the only military charity that supports the recovery of wounded Service personnel and veterans through the sport of golf, we play a vital role in their rehabilitation, transition back to normal civilian life and sourcing of employment opportunities within the industry.

“Our association with the tournament will allow us to increase public awareness of our work and draw attention to the issues that our beneficiaries face as they recover from their life-changing injuries.”
