The South African, who has taken The European Tour by storm recording three victories already this year, had spoken of a “dream draw” after being partnered with the former World Number One at Firestone for the first two rounds.

At four under for the week Grace was up into a tie for eighth, still seven behind American halfway leader Jim Furyk.

The former US Open Champion was two clear of Rafael Cabrera-Bello and three ahead of former Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, with Grace the only player already on the course to have infiltrated the top 18.
