Graeme storms into Close House lead

Local favourite Graeme Storm delighted the home crowds at Close House Golf Club as he opened up a one-shot lead in the final round of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

The man from nearby Hartlepool has already created one of the stories of the 2017 campaign, winning the BMW SA Open hosted by City of Ekurhuleni just two events after thinking he had lost his card with a bogey on the last at the Portugal Masters.

Patrick Reed's failure to play his allocation of events handed the 39 year old a reprieve and two birdies in his first three holes on Sunday put him in the driving seat for a second title of the season at 13 under.

Overnight leader Robert Karlsson opened with three pars to sit a shot back alongside Irishman Paul Dunne who chipped in at the first.

English pair Chris Hanson and Tyrrell Hatton, German Florian Fritsch and Scot Richie Ramsay were then a further shot back.

Hanson holed a 12-footer on the first and when he made another putt from similar range on the second he was quickly up into a share of the lead.

Storm hit an excellent approach into the first to get into the lead but Hanson dropped a shot on the third before he was replaced in the leading group by Dunne after a moment of brilliance.

The 24 year old missed the green with his second into the first but his recovery was stunning, using the slope to hole a left-to-right chip.

Fritsch was the man making a big move and after birdies on the first, fourth and sixth, he holed a long putt on the seventh to get within a shot of the lead.

That was soon two back, however, as Storm holed a 12-foot putt up the hill on the third to massive cheers from the home crowd.

English trio Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Chris Wood, World Number Six Rory McIlroy, Dane Lucas Bjerregaard, South African George Coetzee and Spaniard Nacho Elvira were then at ten under.
