Grace back in the mix for Major glory

Branden Grace came close to winning the US Open last season and is hoping to draw on his Chambers Bay experience after moving himself into contention once again.

The South African stood on the 16th tee in Washington last year level with eventual winner Jordan Spieth but a wild tee-shot led to a double-bogey as he finished two shots behind the American.

The seven-time European Tour winner set the clubhouse target at Oakmont Country Club on Saturday with a 66 and he sits four shots behind Shane Lowry, who will complete the final four holes of his third round on Sunday morning.

Grace's 66 was the joint low-total of the third round so far alongside World Number One Jason Day, and the 28 year old set his sights on going low again as he seeks a first Major Championship.

"Last year, I was in the lead. This year, I'm chasing a little bit," he said.

I have to try not to get ahead of myself, just stay in the moment, stay positive and don't force it - Branden Grace

"I think last year I handled myself a little better than I thought I would. It's tough out there with all the pressure. You're there with three of the best guys, best golfers of this day right behind us, and sharing the lead with them.

"It was great that I could play at the top as I did. It's just a pity one bad shot cost me at the end. But the game is there.

"I've got a lot of great past experiences just from the Presidents Cup leading up to this and there's big moments, doing things in the big moments. I'm definitely going to relive those and hopefully make a couple of good ones tomorrow."

Sergio Garcia

Sergio Garcia is also looking for a first Major and he will begin day four a shot ahead of Grace with four holes of his third round to complete.

The Spaniard has four second-place finishes in golf's biggest events but he insists he does not feel any pressure to at last get over the line.

"It is difficult out there," he said. "It is a tough golf course, but I am excited about it. I feel good about it. I think I can obviously hit the ball a little bit better than what I've been doing.

"But overall I'm very excited about it. So I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

At the end of the day, the only thing I can do is give myself chances, play well, and if it happens, it happens - Sergio Garcia

"I will only know the day that it happens. So it is easy for me to stand here and tell you it will mean this or that, but until it happens, you never know."
