Retief Goosen birdied the first and eagled the second at Oceânico Victoria Golf Course as a strong South African challenge gathered behind halfway leader Francesco Molinari in the Portugal Masters.
By picking up three shots in two holes Goosen charged to 15 under and a share of second place with compatriot Charl Schwartzel.
That was one adrift of Italian Molinari, who birdied the second to keep his one shot advantage intact.
England’s Oliver Wilson was six under with three to play and looked likely to set the clubhouse target – the Ryder Cup player 13 under for the week.
Another South African, James Kingston, Spain’s Pablo Martin and two Race to Dubai contenders – Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington – were also 13 under during the early stages of their third round.
