The 2013 Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex takes place from July 25-28, with Royal Birkdale becoming the 11th different course to host the event. It will be only the second occasion it has visited the north West of England, after Royal Lytham & St Annes staged the 1993 Championship, won by New Zealand’s Bob Charles.

The roll call of Major Champions – which totalled 32 at Turnberry  – is expected to be augmented in 2013 by Fijian Vijay Singh, whose 2000 Masters triumph was sandwiched between two US PGA Championship victories.

Singh turns 50 in February next year, just four months before eight-time European Number One and successful Ryder Cup Captain, Colin Montgomerie of Scotland, who is also expected to swell the ranks of Senior golfers at Royal Birkdale.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex has become one of the most prestigious Championships in the golfing calendar, with a truly world class field, and we are all looking forward to visiting Royal Birkdale for the first time.

“The Championship is always very popular with golfing enthusiasts and families, and this advance ticket price offers the public significant discounts and the chance to reserve their place to see some of the game’s all-time champions.”

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, The R&A’s Executive Director – Championships, added: “Royal Birkdale is an iconic course which has staged many successful Open Championships in the past, and will be a hugely popular venue for the Senior Open Championship, following in the footsteps of other locations on the Open rota such as Carnoustie, Muirfield, Royal Lytham and St Annes, Royal Troon and last year’s outstanding venue, Turnberry.

“The north west public will have a wonderful opportunity to watch many of the legends of the game at close quarters and this ticket offer makes the championship outstanding value for money.”

Couples claimed his maiden Senior Open Championship at Turnberry in July, finishing two shots clear of compatriot Gary Hallberg with English pair Barry Lane and Carl Mason sharing third place with Dick Mast.

The Senior Open Championship is co-owned by the European Senior Tour and The R&A and is co-sanctioned with the US Champions Tour.

Hospitality packages for the 2013 Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex are currently being finalised but anyone can pre-register now atwww.senioropengolf.comor by calling +44 (0)800 0232557 for further details.
