The golf community has rallied round #golfersforukraine, a joint initiative to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine along with support for UNICEF’s work to deliver urgently needed supplies in the country.
Over $300,000 was raised in the first 24 hours of donations being accepted on golfersforukraine.com and some of golf’s biggest names have voiced their support, including World Number One Jon Rahm.
“It's hard to see, honestly. It's really sad. Those people in Ukraine right now need help because through no fault of their own they're going through what they're going through,” said the Spanish star.
“Luckily some of the golf industries are working on something to support, because it's a lot of innocent people that shouldn't be going through this.”
Donations made through golfersforukraine.com will help UNICEF to bring lifesaving help and hope to children and families.
UNICEF is on the ground in Ukraine providing aid to children and their families including emergency supplies like water, trauma care, and helping children separated from family. The charity has already set up safe spaces for families in neighbouring countries called 'Blue Dots' with key information, safe spaces and the protection of unattended children.
“I think what's going on in Ukraine is absolutely horrible. It's absolutely brutal. It's sad. It's heart breaking to see what's happening to that country and those people and the families,” said four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy.
“From just a human side of things, it's just horrible what's going on. I think that the international community has to come together and do whatever they can, and I think everyone can agree with that.”
As well as making donations to #golfersforukraine, golf organisations will show their support at events around the world, with blue and yellow ribbons to be worn at this week’s DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned event, the MyGolfLife Open hosted by Pecanwood.
