Philip Golding and Barry Lane face a back nine battle for the title in the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open, with 2011 European Senior Tour Order of Merit winner Peter Fowler also in contention.
Golding, who had a one shot overnight lead, dropped a shot on the first hole after missing the green and chipping 20ft past the hole. He then dropped another shot on the third hole to drop behind Lane for the first time, but recovered immediately with a birdie on the fourth hole.
Golding, who is bidding for a maiden Senior Tour title in just his third event, reached the turn in one over par, while Lane carded pars on each hole of the front nine to join him on five under par for the tournament.
Fowler was a shot further back on the turn after a bogey on the fifth and a birdie on the seventh. Anders Forsbrand, who held off Golding’s challenge last weekend to win the SSE Scottish Senior Open, is also in contention following a hat-trick of birdies from the ninth holes.
Former World Number One Ian Woosnam, who started the day four shots off the pace, but the Welshman’s chances of a home victory were ended when he followed back-to-back bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes with a double bogey six on the seventh.
