Genworth Stats Pack - Summary Report

Kiradech Aphibarnrat did not produce the best long game statistics for the tournament but he was very strong in each of the Genworth Short Game Statistics categories. The 23 year old golfer from Thailand ranked 6th for Scrambles, 5th for Putts per GIR, 6th for Putts per Round and 2nd for 1 Putts per Round, plus he excelled on the Par 3 holes and hit 25% of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation (two shots). It has been an incredible two weeks for Kiradech Aphibarnrat, finishing fourth at the Avantha Masters last week before winning here at the Maybank Malaysian Open.

Edoardo Molinari fired a bogey free final round of 67 to finish in second place overall (in doing so also making his first cut of the year). The older of the two Italian golfing brothers hit the ball long and straight off the tee which then enabled him to be very accurate with his approach play (ranking 4th for the Genworth Greens in Regulation statistic). The winter work with his coach Sean Foley looks to be taking effect.

Anders Hansen putted sublimely over the three rounds to finish in third place overall. The two time winner of the European Tour’s flagship event (BWM PGA Championship at Wentworth) ranked 1st for the Genworth Putts per GIR statistic, 3rd for Putts per Round and 4th for 1 Putts per Round. Anders also ranked 2nd for Par 4 Scoring and was the only player to make two eagles over the week.

Victor Dubuisson is off to a great start in 2013, with his third top ten finish from five starts. The long hitting 22 year old Frenchman is developing well and is most definitely one to watch over the coming months. Looking at his Genworth Tournament Statistics, Victor drove the ball long and straight off the tee and hit 77.8% of the greens in regulation (plus he scrambled and putted well). The only real mistakes were a couple of bogeys on the Par 5 holes.

Tournament Favourite Charl Schwartzel got off to a fast start in the final round but perhaps ran out of steam as the day progressed. Overall the 28 year old South African ranked 2nd for the Genworth Driving Distance statistic, but the most impressive part of his game this week was his play over the Par 5 holes. Charl hit five of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation (two shots) on his way to ranking 1st for Par 5 Scoring with a 4.17 average.

Padraig Harrington ranked 1st for the Genworth Greens in Regulation statistic for the tournament (with 45/54 greens hit), which is a great improvement on recent weeks. Predictably his short game and putting statistics dipped as a result of the accurate approach play, but overall things seem to be moving in the right direction. A final round back nine of 39 stopped a good week being a great week for the three time major winner.

Genworth Ambassador Pablo Larrazábal was strong in most departments of the game this week. The 29 year old Spanish golfer ranked 3rd for Driving Distance (averaging 306 yards), 11th for Greens in Regulation and 13th for Scrambles, plus he topped the Par 4 Scoring with a 3.73 average. Pablo made few mistakes over the Kuala Lumpur course and looks to be settling into his stride with decent results over the past two weeks.

Alexander Noren hit just 17/42 fairways over the three rounds but the rest of his game was razor sharp. Despite the lack of accuracy from the tee the 30 year old Swedish Golfer still managed 39/54 greens in regulation and putted exceptionally well, ranking high in each of the Genworth Putting Statistics categories. Alexander also ranked 2nd for Birdies per Round but overall there were just a few too many bogeys to seriously contend the title.

Mark Foster struck the ball with great consistency over the week. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 37 year old Englishman ranked 7th for Driving Accuracy and 1st for Greens in Regulation with 83.3% (alongside Padraig Harrington and Chinnarat Phadungsil). Mark also ranked high for Scrambles and was 3/3 for Sand Saves. An excellent week of golf.

Unfortunately there is a delay with David Howell’s Genworth Statistics so they cannot be presented in this report. But overall the 37 year old Englishman continued his good form with yet another cut made and a top ten finish. He scored well on the Par 3’s and Par 4’s but perhaps did not make enough birdies on the Par 5 holes to seriously contend the title.
